of Syambhunath and Buddhanath are among the oldest
and most beautiful worship sites in the Kathamndu
valley.
The Spinning of prayer wheels prostrating pilgrims,
collective chants and surning butter lamps are
some Buddhist practice often encountered by tourists.
A ship of paper bearing a mantra is kept inside
the wheels so that prayers are sent to the gods
when the wheel in spun. Scenes from the Buddha’s
life and Buddhist realms are depicted on thanka
scroll paintings, which are used during meditation
and prayer ceremonies. Many Buddhist followers
are seen performing these practices in syambhunath,
Bouddhanath, and at others Buddhist sites around
the Country.

Maha Shivaratri (February)
Shiva is one of Nepal's most popular gods. During
Maha Shivaratri his "Great Night," followers
through out the Indian sub - continent crowd the
Pashupati temple to worship him. On this occasion
"there is no space even for a sesame seed'
colorful sadhus, the wandering sages who emulate
shiva, rub ashes over their bodies, give lectures
to disciples, meditate, or practice yoga. Devotees
pray to Shiva's image inside the temple at midnight
and many queue up to many hours to look at the
image bonfire are lit neighbors and friends share
food and devotees enjoy two days and a night of
music, song, and dance throughout the pashupati
complex and in the streets.
Losar (February)
Sherpas and Tibetans Welcome their New Year with
feast, family visits and dancing. Families worn
there finest clothes and jewelries and exchange
gifts. Buddhuist monks offer prayers for good
health and prosperity and perform dances at the
monasteries. Colorful prayer flags decorate street
and rooftops. The color seems especially brilliant
at the Bouddha and Syambhunath Stupas. Crowds
of celebrates at Bouddha bring in the New Year
by throwing trampa roasted barley (flour) in to
the air.
Holi or Fagu Purnima (March)
Fagu Purnima is one of the most colorful and playful
festivals of Nepal. The chir pole, decorated with
colorful flags and erected on the first day of
Falgu in Kathamndu's. Durbar squar is a formal
announcement to all hides your good clothes for
throughout the week you - may be splashed with
color pouder and water balloons. The east day
is the wildest. Youths covered with Red Vermillion
powder roam the streets as inviting targets.
Ghode Jatra (April)
Visitors are often amazed by the fine horses of
the Nepalese army, and Ghode Jatra is a time for
the most graceful of these animals to perform
before the public eye legends related that this
"horse festival' was begun affer theKathmandu

Buddha Jayanti (May)
The ever Benevolent Buddha was born in Nepal,
and the religion he pleaded is the second most
popular in the Kingdom. On May 6, a full moon
day, the lord birth, enlightenment and salation
are applauded through out the valley with celebrations.
Shyambhunath and Boudhnath Stupas are prepared
for the on coming festivals several days in advanced,
monasteries are cleaned statue are polished bright
prayer flags waff in the breeze and monks prepare
to dance. On the Jayanti day, people reach the
stupas before down go around them and give offerings
to the many Buddha images there.
