Safaris - In the Nepal Terai A trip to Nepal is incomplete is you have not been
on a jungle safari. While the mountains of the north
have some of the highest and most magnificent peaks
in the world. The tropical jungles of the Terai
preserve some of the wild life habitat in the sub
continent. Some of these rich wildlife habitats
are now protected, and can be tours on Elephant
back. 4 WD vehicles, day out canoes or on foot accompanied
by a guide. Nepal has 16 national parks. Wildlife reserves
and conservation areas, occupying 16% of its total
geographical area. Jungle safaris on elephant back
or jeep rides are offered at the Persa wildlife
Reserve, Royal Bardia National Park, Royal Chitwan
National Park and the Royal Sukhlaphanta wildlife
Reserve, all located in the terai. Royal
Chitwan National Park The Royal Chitwan National Park is the most popular
destination for tourist wanting to have a good experience
of the regions wildlife. It was declared a national
park in 1973. In 1984 UNESCO designated it as a
Natural World Heritage Site. The park offers protection
to 56 species of mammals including the one horned
rhinoceros, Bengal Tiger, Leopard, Sloth bear, wild
elephant, Striped hyena, Gangetic dolphin and wild
bison. There are an estimated 470 species of mammals,
over 500 species of birds, 126 species of fish,
150 species of butterflies and 47 species of reptiles
in the park. A recent study also points out that
over a third of Nepal's Tiger population is in Chitwan
national park. The park is spread over an area of
932 sq. km and located in the lowlands of the Himalayan
kingdom of Nepal. The forest cover is predominantly
Sal, Interspersed with tall grasslands, small hills,
ox-bow lakes and flood plains. The best time to visit Chitwan is from October
through February. When the temperature average 25
degrees Celsius. The months of March, April is the
second best time to visit chitwan because it will

Watching and for seeing the 2 rare species of crocodiles;
the Marsh Mugger and the fish eating Gharial. +

15.00 - Elephant Safari. An excellent opportunity
to see four different kinds of deer, rhinoceros,
wild bore, monkey, leopard, sloth bear, and the
Royal Bengal Tiger (if you are lucky). You will
also encounter many other smaller mammals that have
made Chitwan their home.
19.00 - Tharu cultural dance presentation or slides
show presentation.
20.00 - Dinner Day-3

07.00 - Visit to the Government Elephant Breeding
Centre.
10.00 - Drive to Bees Hazaar Taal (Twenty thousand
lakes) where you will see crocodiles and lots of
birds in and around these lakes.
13.00 - Lunch. (Pack Lunch)
15.00 - Jeep Drive through the grasslands, riverine
forests and Sal forests to Kasara (the National
Park's head quarters) Gharial hatchery farm where
you will learn about how crocodiles are brought
up at this farm & then later released into the
rivers.
19.00 - Tharu cultural dance presentation or slides
show presentation.
20.00 - Dinner Day-4
06.30 - Wake up call.

07.30 - Visit to the National Park Visitor's centre
where you can learn more about the history of the
National Park and about wildlife.

Bardia National park The
Royal Bardia National Park is spread over 968 sq.
km and located in the Western Nepal Terai. It is
easily the largest and least disturbed wilderness
spread in the terai and is predominantly Sal forest
sprinkled with tall grassland. It is bonded on the
north by the Churia Hills and is stretches on the
west by the Geruwa River. It is here that your changes of
spotting a Tiger in Nepal are the highest others
animals include the rhinoceros, swamp deer, Leopard,
wild cats, blue bulls, sloth bear, barking deers
and langurs. There are a few wild elephants and
some of the males are considered the largest in
Asia. The Geruwa River that rushes in through a break
in the hills range, is home to famous mashees game
fish Gharial, Marshmugger Crocodiles and the fresh
water Gangetic dolphins. The park also has cobras,
Kraits and Pythons. The park bosts more then 250 species of birds including
the endangered Bengal florican, sarus crane and
many species of geese, duck and parakeets. The activities include Jungle Safari on elephant
back and jeep drivers. The best time to visit is

Spotted Deer or Chital, Hog Deer, Barking Deer,
Samber, Swamp Deer or Barasingha, Nilgai or Bull,
Black Buck, Wild Boar, Royal Bengal Tiger, Leopard,
Wild Dog, Golden Jackal, Striped Hyena. You will
also encounter many other smaller mammals that have
made Bardia their home. Visit to Crocodile Breeding
Center, Park Visitors Center & Tharu Cultural
Museum.

15.00 - Jungle walk. An excellent opportunity to
see the wild animals, small mammals, birds and waits
in the Tower (Machan) to have the wild sightseeing,
accompanied by our experienced naturalists and wild
life tracker. Excellent photographic opportunities
are plentiful.

to see a great many species of birds found in Bardia.

Sukhlaphanta National Park The Royal Sukhlaphanta wildlife Reserve is smaller.
305 sq. km version of Bardia. Located at the Southwestern
extreme of the Himalayan Kingdom of Nepal. Its topography
is primarily riverine flood plain, open grassland
and Sal forests. It also has a large lake and the
Bahini River flows through the park. The park is home to the tiger; leopard a good numbers
of swamp deer, hispidhare, blue bulls, hog deer
and wild bore. The park also has over 300 species of birds and
most of the tourist who make the trip here are a
keen birds watcher, Reptiles include gharial and
mugger crocodiles, Indian Python, Cobras, Kraits,
rat snakes, and monitor Lizards. Activities include wildlife watching on Elephant
back and jungle walks. The best time to visit is
February - March every year. Parsa Parsa Wildlife Reserve is located to the east of
Royal Chitwan National Park and is spread over 499
sq. kms of hills and flatlands and has a sub - tropical
monsoon climate. The forests are predominantly Sal,
with others species like Chir pine, Sissoo and Khair,
and grasslands making up the rest. This reserve
had tigers, Leopards, Sloth Bears, Wild hogs, deer,
blue bull, hog deer and barking deer. It is also
home to over 300 species of birds, including the
endangered giant hornbill and the Bengal Florican,
Snakes found are Cobras, Kraits, and Pythons. October to March is just the right time for a visit.
Activities include Safaris on elephant back and
